Venezia caused a Coppa Italia upset by knocking out local rivals Verona in a penalty shoot-out, and will now face Inter in the Round of 16.
This was a local derby, so given some added spice along with being the second round tie of the Coppa Italia.
Junior Ajayi fired a couple of efforts over for Hellas, while there were tricky saves on Venezia’s Mattia Compagnon and Armel Bella-Kotchap’s header for Verona.
The start of the second half was delayed due to a hailstorm, which made play impossible at the Stadio Bentegodi.

When play did resume, Richie Sagrado came so close to giving Venezia the lead with an angled drive that thumped the far post.
Ahmed Sidibé also forced a save for the visitors, but it went to a penalty shoot-out, as there is no extra time in the Coppa Italia.
Enzo Ebosse of Verona saw his spot-kick saved by Alessandro Plizzari and that proved decisive, allowing Venezia to eliminate their rivals.
