It is not the start to the Europa League that Italiano wanted, but it does confirm the curious record this season, as Bologna have lost all their away fixtures by 1-0 scorelines at Roma, Milan, and Aston Villa.

Bologna players are saluting their fans, who easily were louder than the Villa crowd throughout the match.

Bologna chance!

Oh they almost snatched a point right at the end!

Free kick pumped to the back post, looping header from Vitik and Bizot at full stretch has to punch it away!

Comes back to Freuler, who scuffs it horribly!

94'

Skorupski AGAIN gets to the ball to push it off the feet of Watkins one-on-one! The goalkeeper does not deserve to be on the losing side tonight.

93'

Watkins diving header is wide from the corner. Last chance for Bologna.

92'

Watkins on the counter, but his curler is deflected by Vitik for a Villa corner.

90'

Ball to the back post, but another weak header into the arms of Bizot from Vitik.

Into 5 minutes of added time.

89'

Digne with a lunge through the back of Orsolini. Somehow not a yellow card.

89'

Seriously, as the Villa fans on strike or just taking a vow of silence? Bologna fans are so much louder.

88'

The first touch from Orsolini is a little heavy at the back post, allowing Villa to clear, but the Bologna pressure carries on.

Skorupski again!

MOTM easily. Comfortably.

Skorupski with another big save from close range on Lucas Digne.

85'

Sancho cuts inside from the left, but the right-foot finish is well over. Probably should’ve been a free kick for the foul on Lucumi earlier too…

83'

Dallinga and Fabbian on for Bologna, Castro and Odgaard off.

83'

Rowe cross to the back post, beyond both Castro and Orsolini.

82'

Bologna set play into the box, but the Holm header is straight at Bizot.

80'

Castro with an acrobatic overhead kick pass for Orsolini, who had wandered offside. Which just past the middle of the pitch is an achievement.

79'

Sancho goes in rather too aggressively in the challenge and crashes into Castro. Bologna are pushing hard now.

77'

Bologna free kick to the back post, Holm turns it onto the side-netting, but was offside along with Lucumi, who got in his way.

76'

Konsa elbowed Castro in the face. No card, just a free kick.

75'

Maatsen off for Villa, Lucas Digne on.

74'

Bizot got injured during that collision with Odgaard and is getting treatment.

Again, the only fans we can hear are the Bologna supporters, all 750 of them.

73'
Bologna chance!

Lykogiannis free kick into the box, Bizot makes a mess of rushing out, Odgaard only skims it with his head, and Bologna are threatening again!
