Serie A | Como 3-1 Verona: Fabregas and co keep marching on https://football-italia.net/serie-a-como-3-1-verona-fabregas-marching-on/ https://football-italia.net/serie-a-como-3-1-verona-fabregas-marching-on/#respond Wed, 29 Oct 2025 19:40:10 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=923519

Como continued their positive run of results with a 3-1 victory over troubled Verona, thanking Tasos Douvikas, Stefan Posch and Mergim Vojvoda.

Cesc Fabregas was on a six-match unbeaten run, including the 2-0 victory over Juventus, but dropped too many points in disappointing draws against Genoa, Cremonese, Atalanta and Parma. Sergi Roberto was the only remaining absentee, as Jesus Rodriguez returned from suspension. Verona were still without a win after fumbling the 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Cagliari. Grigoris Kastanos and Unai Nunez joined Daniel Oyegoke, Moatasem Al-Musrati and Tomas Suslov on the absentee list.

See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.

Nico Paz came close with a free kick that thumped the upright, but Como took the lead moments later.

Alex Valle floated a cross in from the left for the Tasos Douvikas bullet header from six yards, giving Lorenzo Montipò little chance.

Verona fought back, a dangerous Belghali ball from the right going past everyone, then Jean Butez rushing off his line to deny Suat Serdar after a give and go, with Victor Nelsson’s header just over on the resulting corner.

The equaliser was coming, and arrived when Como were too sluggish playing out from the back, allowing Serdar to take advantage by pouncing on a Maxence Caqueret error inside the box.

There was a big save on Nico Paz set up by Caqueret, then Gift Orban ran onto the Giovane assist only to have his finish charged down by Jaboco Ramon.

Como restored their advantage when Caqueret floated a set play to the back post for the header from defender Stefan Posch.

Giovane’s free kick failed to trouble the goalkeeper and Orban’s effort was charged down by Diego Carlos.

Verona threatened to equalise when Butez parried the Domagoj Bradaric attempt and his teammates struggled to clear the loose ball.

However, Mergim Vojvoda locked down the points in stoppages with a ferocious finish at the near post on a counter-attack sparked by Jesus Rodriguez.

Parma had by far the best scoring opportunities, but Como held on for a point at the Stadio Tardini.

The Ducali had Abdoulaye Ndiaye suspended after his red card against Genoa, where Zion Suzuki saved a last-gasp penalty. Pontus Almqvist, Emanuele Valeri, Gaetano Oristanio, Matija Frigan and Jacob Ondrejka were also injured. Como were fresh from victory over Juventus, though Alberto Dossena, Sergi Roberto, Jayden Addai and suspended Jesus Rodriguez were still out of action.

See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.

Patrick Cutrone almost opened the scoring against his former club, a header on a long throw-in thumping the near post after 13 minutes, then pulling a rebound across the face of goal.

Lucas Da Cunha ran a big risk bringing down Mandela Keita inches outside the penalty area, while Adrian Bernabé volleyed just over from an excellent scoring position.

Parma had the ball in the net on 43 minutes, but the offside flag was up for the roll across and Ordonez tap-in.

The hosts again had the better scoring opportunities after the restart, Cutrone dragged down on the counter by Diego Carlos for a bookable offence.

A long free kick was knocked down in the area for Enrico Del Prato on the half-volley from eight yards, forcing a desperate Jean Butez save.

The Tasos Douvikas header was too weak to trouble Suzuki on an Ivan Smolcic cross from the right.

Australian FA gives green light to play Milan vs. Como in Perth https://football-italia.net/australian-fa-green-light-milan-como-perth/ https://football-italia.net/australian-fa-green-light-milan-como-perth/#comments Fri, 24 Oct 2025 11:04:18 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=922457

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the Australian FA has given the green light to host Milan-Como in Perth in February 2026, so the Asian Football Confederation and FIFA now need to give their final approval.

The Australian FA has given its approval for the Serie A game Milan-Como to be played in Perth next year through a formal letter sent to FIFA, Gazzetta reports.

The match is expected to be played overseas on February 7 or 8, 2026, when the Stadio Meazza in San Siro, home to Serie A giants Milan, will be occupied by preparations for the opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games.

It is, however, still not official that the game will be held in Perth as the Asian Football Confederation and FIFA have yet to give their approval.

UEFA reluctantly allowed Milan-Como and Villarreal-Barcelona to be played abroad, mostly due to a lack of regulations on the matter, the same issue faced by FIFA.

Protests in Spain, including those of players, led La Liga to reconsider their decision to play Villarreal-Barcelona in Miami this coming December, but it’s unlikely that the same scenario will be repeated in Italy, given that the request came from Lega Serie A and, especially, the two clubs.

Furthermore, protests have been far practically non-existent in Italy, being only limited to the back-and-forth between Adrien Rabiot and Lega Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo.

According to Tycsports in Argentina, Inter are preparing an offer close to €60m to sign Como star Nico Paz, despite Real Madrid’s option to re-sign the 21-year-old.

Inter remain interested in Como talent Nico Paz, and according to the latest report from Argentina, the Nerazzurri are preparing an offer worth €58m.

Nico Paz is formally under contract with Como until June 2028, but any possible transfer needs approval from Real Madrid, who have an option to re-sign the 21-year-old in 2026 and 2027 and have a 50% clause on any future sale.

Tottenham already tried to sign Nico Paz last summer, but neither Como nor Real Madrid approved the deal, so Nico Paz remained at the Stadio Sinigaglia, where he has contributed to eight of Como’s nine goals this season with four goals and four assists.

This past Tuesday, Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso was questioned about Nico Paz’s possible return to the Bernabeu, but said it was “too early” to discuss the matter.

Allegri and Fabregas agree on Milan vs. Como in Australia: ‘Better in Italy’ https://football-italia.net/allegri-fabregas-agree-on-milan-como-australia/ https://football-italia.net/allegri-fabregas-agree-on-milan-como-australia/#respond Thu, 23 Oct 2025 14:50:26 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=922291

Milan and Como head coaches Massimiliano Allegri and Cesc Fabregas that the Serie A match between their two sides, scheduled for February 8, would be ‘better played in Italy’, rather than in Perth, Australia.

Earlier this month, UEFA granted permission for the Serie A match between Milan and Como to be played in Australia on a one-off basis. At the same time, the European governing body also allowed for the LaLiga match between Villarreal and Barcelona to be played in Miami, a decision that has since been cancelled.

The reason why Milan and Como sought a new venue for their match is because the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in San Siro will be preoccupied with the Winter Olympics opening ceremony on the date of their league match.

It remains to be seen whether the game will be played in Australia. Though UEFA has given its approval, permission still needs to be granted by the Australian FA, the AFC and FIFA.

Recent reports claim that there is now mounting pressure on the AFC to block the game from being played in Australia by refusing to grant permission.

What Allegri and Fabregas say about Milan vs. Como in Australia

Both Allegri and Fabregas were asked questions about the proposal to play the Milan vs. Como match in Australia during their pre-match press conferences on Thursday, following the decision to backtrack on the proposal to play the LaLiga match between Villarreal and Barcelona in Miami.

Allegri believes that it would be ‘better’ to play in Italy, but is more concerned that a decision – either way – is made as soon as possible.

“I’ll say one thing, the important thing is that a decision is made as soon as possible, it would be better to play in Italy, but if we have to go to Perth, we will go to Perth,” Allegri said (via TMW).

Fabregas, meanwhile, took a slightly harder stance against the proposal to play the match in Australia.

Fabregas has previously claimed that the decision to play outside of Italy ‘doesn’t seem right to me’.

On Thursday, he added: “I said what I said three months ago, and I will confirm it myself. I’m an employee of the club, I won’t go against our fans, nor my team, but I do have my own personal opinion. Supporters are the most important thing. Some go to Lecce, don’t sleep, use their hard-earned salaries to follow us away.”

Milan-Como match in Australia still in doubt as pressure mounts on AFC and FIFA https://football-italia.net/milan-como-match-in-australia-still-in-doubt/ https://football-italia.net/milan-como-match-in-australia-still-in-doubt/#respond Thu, 23 Oct 2025 14:32:07 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=922288

Recent reports claim there are growing doubts over the feasibility of playing the Serie A match between Milan and Como in Australia, with suggestions that the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) are under increasing pressure to stop the game from going ahead.

Increasing pressure to block Milan-Como match being played in Australia

Earlier this month, UEFA granted permission for the Serie A match between the Rossoneri and Como, scheduled for February 8, to be played in Perth, Australia. Milan’s regular home, the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in San Siro, will be preoccupied with preparations for the Winter Olympics on that date, hence the search for a new venue.

UEFA granted permission on a one-off basis for the Milan vs. Como match to be played in Australia, as they did with the proposed Villarreal vs. Barcelona match in Miami, a decision that has since been cancelled.

COMO, ITALY - JANUARY 14: Rafael Leao of AC Milan competes for the ball with Yannik Engelhardt of Como 1907 during the Serie A match between Como 1907 and AC Milan at Stadio G. Sinigaglia on January 14, 2025 in Como, Italy. (Photo by Marco Luzzani/Getty Images)

In order for the Milan vs. Como match to be played in Australia, Serie A still required permission from the Australian FA, the AFC and from FIFA.

According to reports from The Guardian, there is now mounting ‘external pressure’ on the AFC to stop the game from going ahead in Australia by refusing to grant permission.

The Guardian also reports that there is a growing feeling within UEFA that the feasibility of playing Milan vs. Como in Australia is ‘receding’.

Why Serie A are unlikely to reconsider Milan vs Como despite pressure after La Liga cancel Miami fixture https://football-italia.net/pressure-mounts-on-serie-a-milan-como/ https://football-italia.net/pressure-mounts-on-serie-a-milan-como/#respond Wed, 22 Oct 2025 14:11:49 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=922078

Yesterday, La Liga confirmed that December’s fixture between Barcelona and Villarreal, originally scheduled to be held in Miami, Florida, will no longer take place there – as questions grow over Serie A’s Australian match between Milan and Como.

The cancellation followed a number of protests by clubs over the weekend and massive backlash from fans and media alike.

La Liga did their best to censor the broadcast of the club protests, where many teams stood still for the first 10-15 seconds of their matches, yet images and footage still found its way to social media.

Potential domino effect on Serie A but two major differences

TuttoMercatoWeb suggest that whilst there is potential for a ‘domino effect’ on the Milan-Como match, ‘it is not a given.’

The key differences in the two cases are that there are currently no plans for player protests or public action from the AIC – who are reportedly more concerned with stopping the overseas matches from becoming a regular event, rather than this specific game itself.

Additionally, TMW note that whereas La Liga were the major proponents for hosting their match in the USA, it is Milan who have been the biggest advocate for their match against Como to be held in Perth.

The reasons, the outlet note, are primarily promotional, more focused on building brand and image in the Australian market rather than the modest €8-9 million sum the fixture is expected to result in financially.

Como 2-0 Juventus: Tudor’s unnecessary rant at Fabregas explained https://football-italia.net/tudor-unnecessary-rant-at-fabregas-explained/ https://football-italia.net/tudor-unnecessary-rant-at-fabregas-explained/#respond Mon, 20 Oct 2025 17:32:43 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=921751

Igor Tudor did not hide his feelings when discussing Como and their head coach Cesc Fabregas prior to Juventus’s 2-0 defeat at the Stadio Sinigaglia on Sunday. Football Italia expert Alfredo Pedullà is on hand to explain why the Bianconeri coach went off at his Como counterpart, even if he was unnecessary in doing so.

Tudor vs. Fabregas: A tiresome rant that leads nowhere

The transfer market is a beautiful, interesting and oftentimes complicated thing. What’s important is to manage it carefully.

It’s difficult to believe that Jonathan David, Edon Zhegrova and Lois Openda have all immediately become duds at Juventus. But Igor Tudor has choices to make, and it would be better to make them without aiming digs at Damein Comolli or Cesc Fabregas.

Prior to the meeting of Como and Juventus on Sunday, Tudor raised eyebrows by labelling his opponents a ‘fake small club’, while adding that they ‘spent a lot, and most importantly, the coach chose all the players that they signed’.

The back story is that Tudor wanted to keep Randal Kolo Muani over the summer due to his goalscoring record and technical abilities.

He had also asked for a new midfielder, which did not come off during the summer transfer window. Additionally, Tudor, ideally, would not have swapped Alberto Costa for Joao Mario. It’s little surprise that the latter has scarcely been used in recent matches.

The controversy with Fabregas, however, is tiresome and leads nowhere, especially considering that Como are doing extremely well and have made good on all of their transfer operations.

All Tudor can do for now is to respond with action. The next two matches, against Real Madrid and Lazio, are of m

Como coach Cesc Fabregas showed his excitement for beating Juventus, giving a passionate speech on the pitch after a 2-0 victory: ‘Thank you so much!’

Fabregas’ Como beat Juventus 2-0 on Sunday, giving the Bianconeri their first defeat this season.

Fabregas was not on the touchline as he was serving a one-match ban, but the Spaniard reunited with his players on the pitch after the final whistle.

“Only one word. I am so f****** proud of you,” Fabregas said after gathering his players, as Como showed in a video on X social media.

“From there, you watch football very easily, but what you did was very difficult. But you see what we did. We run, one minute, 20 minutes, 10 minutes. I don’t care. You need the mentality to win in this football club, at this team. Thank you so much, let’s keep going.”

Nico Paz’s stats show why Como star destined for Real Madrid return https://football-italia.net/nico-paz-stats-como-return-real-madrid/ https://football-italia.net/nico-paz-stats-como-return-real-madrid/#respond Mon, 20 Oct 2025 09:10:52 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=921700

Nico Paz has contributed to almost every goal scored by Como this season as the Azzurri have netted nine times, and the Argentine has four goals and four assists.

Nico Paz is having a fantastic start to the season at Como with four goals and four assists in seven league rounds.

The 21-year-old contributed to a 2-0 win over Juventus on Sunday with one goal and one assist, bringing his goal contributions to eight in seven Serie A matches.

What’s even more impressive is that Como have scored nine goals in Serie A so far, which means Paz has contributed to every Como goal, except one.

Nico Paz, a product of the Real Madrid academy, is in his second season at Como, but the La Liga giants have an option to re-sign him in 2026 and 2027.

Former Real Madrid coach Capello, a two-time La Liga winner, has recently hinted that the Argentine will return to the Bernabeu in the coming years, and Como President Mirwan Suwarso argued that the Merengues can re-sign Paz “whenever they want.”

Nico Paz has ten goals and 13 assists in 43 Como matches, and his stats at the Stadio Sinigaglia proved he’s destined for greatness with a return to Real Madrid on the cards.

Fabregas & Como reaping rewards for clear club blueprint after Juventus win https://football-italia.net/fabregas-como-club-blueprint-coherent/ https://football-italia.net/fabregas-como-club-blueprint-coherent/#comments Sun, 19 Oct 2025 17:15:38 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=921565

People often say a club has “had a great transfer market,” but that alone is never enough. You can spend whatever you like – what truly counts is who you entrust those signings to, and how those resources are managed on the pitch. Como are the perfect example of this.

Yes, more than €100 million were invested in the summer window, but the difference is that Cesc Fabregas has handled everything with clarity, structure and without improvisation, maximising the work of his directors and the value of his squad.

Fabregas underlines Como consistency

The coach has guided or approved every signing, as if he had a clear blueprint in mind long before the season began.

It is no coincidence that even in recent weeks, despite suspensions and injuries, Como have always found solutions without abandoning their identity, adapting players based on their qualities.

Nico Paz is the clearest example: utilised for what he can do, not forced into something he is not.

This is why, no matter how much a club spends, without the right tactical ideas you risk falling backwards, not forwards.

Como instead continue to grow, spending big but with a coherent plan and a coach capable of turning investment into results and avoiding the kind of expensive flop that has sunk many projects in the past.

Como 2-0 Juventus – War of words continues for Tudor & Fabregas: ‘He can say what he wants’ https://football-italia.net/como-2-0-juventus-war-of-words-tudor-fabregas/ https://football-italia.net/como-2-0-juventus-war-of-words-tudor-fabregas/#comments Sun, 19 Oct 2025 16:02:22 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=921546

Como defeated Juventus 2-0 on Sunday afternoon in an impressive result that brought to an end Juventus’ unbeaten streak in Serie A this season.

Goals from Marc-Oliver Kempf and Nico Paz were enough to see the lakeside team emerge with a monumental three points for their growing ambitions in Italian football.

However, the drama did not stop with the referees whistle as head coaches Igor Tudor and Cesc Fabregas continued to butt heads following their pre-match war of words.

Juventus coach Tudor: ‘Fabregas can say what he wants’

The spark came from Tudor’s pre-match claim that Como were a “fake small club”, adding that the Lombardy side “spent a lot and, above all, the coach chose all the players that were signed,” as per Sky Sport Italia.

Fabregas fired back with a thinly veiled retort, saying:

“I say this with respect for Mr. Tudor, since on Saturday he called me ‘the Como coach’. He is a great coach and Juventus are an immense club. He said we are an example and that I pick all the players – maybe they didn’t explain the whole story to him properly…”

Tudor was unmoved when asked about the response, choosing not to escalate the exchange.

“I don’t know what Fabregas said,” he replied. “He can say what he wants. Those are his things, and I say mine.”

Fabregas is not only head coach at Como but is involved in the ownership as well and it is not entirely clear as to what the Spaniard and Tudor are actually arguing about, or if it is just a misunderstanding between the two coaches surrounding an already tense fixture.

Tudor explains Vlahovic decision after Como 2-0 Juventus: ‘You have to run’ https://football-italia.net/tudor-on-vlahovic-decision-como-2-0-juventus/ https://football-italia.net/tudor-on-vlahovic-decision-como-2-0-juventus/#comments Sun, 19 Oct 2025 13:31:07 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=921511

Igor Tudor has explained why he decided to give Dusan Vlahovic just over 10 minutes of game time for Juventus’s 2-0 defeat away against Como in Serie A on Sunday afternoon, and believes that he was right to switch from a back three to a back four despite his side’s defeat at the Stadio Sinigaglia.

Goals from Marc-Oliver Kempf and Nico Paz gave Como their first victory over Juventus in close to 70 years on Sunday afternoon.

Tudor after Como 2-0 Juventus: ‘I’m always worried’

The 2-0 loss against Como was Juventus and Tudor’s first of the 2025-26 campaign, but more concerning is the fact that they have not won in any competition in more than a month, dating back to the 4-3 victory over Inter on September 13.

With the way that Como set-up, disciplined defensively and lightning quick on the counter attack, Tudor insisted that it was always going to be a tough task against Cesc Fabregas’s side. Still, he felt the ‘game was over’ after going two goals down in the 79th minute.

“It was a difficult game against a well-organised team,” Tudor told DAZN after full-time.

“We conceded this goal from a set piece, but we did interesting things, like they did in the first half. In the second, it was a bit fragmented because of the way they played. After the 2-0, the game was over.”

And on the decision to switch to a back four following the recent injury to Gleison Bremer, Tudor said: “We believe that this was the best thing for the team. I think it was the right choice regardless of the result. We got close to their area but missed the final pass or shot.”

Tudor was also asked why Dusan Vlahovic was only brought on in the 77th minute, Juve’s first change of the game.

“It was right to try with two strikers at the end, but you have to run against Como,” Tudor said. “It’s not easy to cover. We got hit on the counter attack, and at 2-0, the game was over. There was nothing more to do.”

And when asked if he is ‘worried’ about his job security after the Como defeat, Tudor replied: “I’m always worried about everything, that’s the life of a coach. You always think about the things you can do better. We’ll definitely talk about that in the dressing room.”

Fabregas: ‘No ceiling for Nico Paz, I don’t judge Morata by his goals’ https://football-italia.net/fabregas-no-ceiling-for-nico-paz/ https://football-italia.net/fabregas-no-ceiling-for-nico-paz/#respond Sun, 19 Oct 2025 13:12:12 +0000 https://football-italia.net/?p=921501

Cesc Fabregas believes that the sky is the limit for Como sensation Nico Paz, and claims that he will not be judging Alvaro Morata by his goalscoring record following his side’s 2-0 victory over Juventus on Sunday.

Como picked up their first win over Juventus in over 70 years with a 2-0 victory at the Sinigaglia on Sunday thanks to goals from Paz and Marc-Oliver Kempf.

Speaking to DAZN after full-time, Fabregas, who had been suspended for the Juventus match, gave his verdict on a number of his key players.

He insists that Morata is bringing a lot to the table, even if he is yet to find the back of the net in eight appearances since joining Como.

“Morata did exactly what I asked for,” Fabregas said. “A striker is judged by their goals, but I don’t. He has to score goals for himself, but not for me. He has shown exactly why we brought him to Como.”

There was no Assane Diao in the Como squad, despite pre-match suggestions that he could be in line to feature, Fabregas says that the youngster will be bled back in gradually after such a lengthy period on the sidelines.

“Diao was a forced choice, he hasn’t trained with the team. He’s been out for six or seven months. His importance is understandable, but winning without him is great for the team. We’ll try to bring him back in calmly, he will train with the group from Tuesday.”

And finally, on Nico Paz, who sealed victory over Juventus with a magnificent individual goal, Fabregas said: “Nico is a champion. I’m very calm about him and his future. He can get to wherever he wants if he carries on with this hunger and humility. The talent and physicality are there.”

Nico Paz outperformed Kenan Yildiz in a battle of the rising stars, as Como claimed a surprise 2-0 victory over Juventus at the Stadio Sinigaglia in Serie A on Sunday afternoon.

You can see how the action unfolded on the Football Italia Liveblog

Goals from Marc-Oliver Kempf and the Real Madrid-linked Paz gave Como a 2-0 victory over Juventus, who have now  not won in Serie A in over a month, dating back to the 4-3 win over Inter on September 13.

Much had been made of the ‘battle’ between young talents Paz and Yildiz ahead of kick-off, but it was the Como man who stole the headlines with a brilliant individual goal to seal Como’s two-goal lead just over 10 minutes from time.

Here are the player ratings after a memorable victory for Cesc Fabregas’s side.

Como 2-0 Juventus: Player ratings

Como: Butez 6.5; Smolcic 6, D.Carlos 6, Kempf 7; Vojvoda 6, Da Cunha 6, Perrone 6, Caqueret 6.5, Moreno 5.5; Paz 7.5; Morata 6.5.

Best Como player: Nico Paz 7.5 – Another inspiring performance from the rising star, who showed the world what he is capable of with a fine individual goal to hand Como a 2-0 lead with 10 minutes to go. Carried it to the edge of the area and dispatched perfectly into the far corner despite a difficult set-up. Easy to see why Real Madrid are keen to bring him back to the Bernabeu in the summer.

Coach: Cesc Fabregas 8 – Technically it was Dani Guindos in the dugout for Como with Fabregas still suspended for the visit of Juventus. Either way, Como executed their game plan to perfection. They limited Juve to just two attempts on target across the 90, while putting up six successful attempts on goal themselves. They were disciplined and well set-up defensively and Juventus never particularly looked like scoring on the day.

COMO, ITALY – OCTOBER 19: Francisco Conceicao of Juventus competes for the ball with Marc Olivier Kenpf of Como 1907 during the Serie A match between Como 1907 and Juventus FC at Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium on October 19, 2025 in Como, Italy. (Photo by Marco Luzzani/Getty Images)

Juventus: Di Gregorio 5.5; Kalulu 4.5, Rugani 5, Kelly 5.5, Cambiaso 5; Koopmeiners 5.5, Locatelli 5.5, Thuram 6; Conceicao 6, Yildiz 5; David 5.

Best Juventus player: Franicsco Conceicao 6 – Slim pickings on a tough day out for Juventus. At least Conceicao tried to take to make things happen, even if he was largely unsuccessful and had the occasional slip.

Coach: Igor Tudor 5 – It wasn’t Juventus or Tudor’s day at the Sinigaglia. The Bianconeri never truly looked like scoring, they found it difficult to break down Como’s lines and struggled to get Yildiz or Conceicao on the ball in the second half. Tudor left it surprisingly late to make any changes, the first coming in the 77th minute just before going 2-0 down, despite the team looking like they could do with an injection of energy or creativity. Troubling that Vlahovic is the only Juventus centre-forward to have found the back of the net for the last month.

Nico Paz scored one and assisted another, as Como inflicted the first Serie A defeat of the season on Juventus and caught them in the table on 12 points.

The Bianconeri had the opportunity to go joint top of the table, but were missing Gleison Bremer, Edon Zhegrova, Juan Cabal, Fabio Miretti and Arek Milik, so switched to a four-man defence. Jesus Rodriguez and coach Cesc Fabregas sat out bans for the hosts, with Jayden Addai, Sergi Roberto, Assane Diao and Alberto Dossena injured. Alvaro Morata faced his former club in a 3-5-2.

See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.

It was the ideal start for the hosts, as a corner was taken short and the Nico Paz cross found Marc-Oliver Kempf totally unmarked at the back post to volley in undisturbed, lost by Pierre Kalulu.

Kenan Yildiz curled wide on the counter-attack, then squirmed between two to set up Teun Koopmeiners with a shot charged down by Kempf, but Michele Di Gregorio had to palm a Morata effort out from under the bar.

Di Gregorio also got down quickly to fingertip away the Alberto Carlos angled drive, while Jonathan David had the ball in the net only after Teun Koopmeiners was flagged offside on the assist.

Daniele Rugani made a decisive block on Mergim Vojvoda on the stroke of half-time, but Maxence Caqueret failed to turn in the rebound when Di Gregorio parried another Vojvoda angled drive.

Koopmeiners curled a free kick off target and aimed a free header straight at Jean Butez, but just as Juve threw on Dusan Vlahovic to push for an equaliser, they conceded the second.

Nico Paz ran onto a long ball over the top, cut inside Andrea Cambiaso, and bent a perfect left-foot finish into the far bottom corner from the edge of the area.

Cambiaso and Tasos Douvikas fired straight at the goalkeepers, as did substitute Dusan Vlahovic with a free kick in stoppages.
